What began as a grand religious spectacle ended in violence and mourning, as separate incidents of targeted attacks and clashes resulted in the death of three persons and left nearly 1,000 others injured.A Night of Terror: The Attacks According to police reports, the violence erupted late Saturday night near the iconic Jhanda Chowk.Abhishek Verma, a resident of Bada Bazaar, was brutally hacked to death with a sword by unidentified assailants during the procession.In a separate but nearby incident, Prince Kumar from Silwar village was attacked with sharp-edged weapons and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.A third victim, Rama Sav, was reportedly killed in the Pelawal area due to what officials suspect was an "old enmity" triggered during the yatra.Casualties and Chaos While the deaths have shocked the state, the scale of injuries is staggering. Over 1,000 people were injured during the 36-hour long procession, with many sustaining cuts and bruises during traditional weapon displays (Astra-Shastra). Emergency medical camps at Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and other local hospitals are working overtime to treat the wounded.Police Action and Political Fallout Following the violence, a massive contingent of police and paramilitary forces has been deployed across Hazaribagh. SDO Aditya Pandey and senior officials have assured the public that CCTV footage is being scanned to identify the culprits. Meanwhile, political tension is brewing.
