Travel Alert: 10 Major Trains Cancelled in Bilaspur Zone Check New Dates and Impact on Your Journey

Commuters in the Bilaspur Railway Zone are facing a tough week ahead as the administration has once again announced the cancellation of 10 local and MEMU passenger trains. This sudden decision comes amidst soaring summer temperatures, leaving thousands of passengers stranded without alternative arrangements. The disruption is primarily due to the ongoing connectivity work for the fourth railway line at Akaltara railway station. Why the Sudden Cancellations? The South East Central Railway (SECR) is fast-tracking the fourth line connectivity between Bilaspur and Jharsuguda. This technical work involves yard remodeling and non-interlocking tasks at Akaltara station.Work Period: The current block is scheduled from April 11 to April 18, 2026.Previous Status: Interestingly, these trains were briefly restored for two days before being cancelled again as the engineering team rescheduled the technical block.List of Affected RoutesThe cancellations primarily affect daily commuters traveling between major industrial and residential hubs. The following routes are seeing significant disruptions:Bilaspur to Raigarh: Multiple MEMU and local services are suspended.Gevra Road to Raipur: Key passenger trains connecting the coal belt to the state capital are off the tracks.Korba to Raipur: Essential links for workers and students have been halted until April 18.Special Status for Hasdeo ExpressWhile many trains are cancelled, the railway has made a slight adjustment for the Hasdeo Express (18250/18249 and 18252/18251).Between Korba and Bilaspur, it will operate as a Passenger Train from April 11 to 18.However, between Bilaspur and Raipur, it will continue to run in its usual Express avatar.Passenger Woes: No Alternative ArrangementsOne of the biggest concerns for travelers is the lack of "Vaikalpik Vyavastha" or alternative transport. With 10 trains cancelled simultaneously, buses and private taxis are expected to be overcrowded, and ticket prices may surge. Rail authorities have advised passengers to check their train status via the NTES (National Train Enquiry System) or the 139 helpline before heading to the station.Future Benefits of the Fourth LineWhile the current situation is inconvenient, the railway administration emphasizes that this "fourth line" is crucial for the future. Once completed, it will:Increase Capacity: Allow more passenger and freight trains to run without delays.Improve Punctuality: Reduce the "bottleneck" effect currently seen at Akaltara.Boost Economy: Facilitate faster movement of coal and industrial goods in the SECR zone.
