Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) passengers traveling from Prayagraj toward Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and surrounding eastern districts will need to shell out extra money for tickets. Following major traffic route diversions implemented to ensure smooth passage for millions of Shiva devotees during the holy Kanwar Yatra, bus fares have been hiked by ₹12 to ₹28. With heavy movement expected across key corridors through July 30, transport authorities have re-routed vehicular traffic to prioritize pilgrim safety and manage seasonal congestion effectively.Route Diversions and Increased Travel DistancesAccording to Ravindra Kumar, Regional Manager of the UP Roadways Prayagraj region, regular bus services will not operate via the Jhunsi Bridge due to strict Kanwar Yatra security arrangements. Instead, all roadways buses are being diverted via the Phaphamau Chandrashekhar Azad Bridge. This mandatory detour has extended regular transit distances, driving up fuel consumption and resulting in adjusted fare structures.Revised Fares for Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Other DistrictsThe distance from Prayagraj to Varanasi has expanded from 126 kilometers to 144 kilometers via the Phaphamau route. Consequently, ordinary bus fares have jumped from ₹197 to ₹225, requiring passengers to pay an extra ₹28. Similarly, the travel distance to Gorakhpur has increased from 294 kilometers to 303 kilometers, hiking ticket prices from ₹428 to ₹440. Commuters traveling to other regional destinations including Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Shahganj, Tanda, Ghazipur, and Deoria will also experience proportional fare adjustments until normal traffic routes are restored.
