UP Weather : IMD Issues Heatwave Alert for Several Districts, Western Disturbance May Bring Relief Soon

The weather pattern in Uttar Pradesh is currently showing a dual personality. While a fierce heatwave is gripping the majority of the state, with temperatures soaring to record-breaking levels, the Meteorological Department has also shared a glimmer of hope. A new Western Disturbance is expected to become active, potentially bringing light rain and thunderstorms to specific regions, offering a much-needed break from the sweltering sun.Heatwave Havoc in Prayagraj and KanpurCities like Prayagraj, Kanpur, and Varanasi have become hotspots as the mercury crosses the 42-degree Celsius mark. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a "Yellow Alert" for several districts in Eastern and Central UP, warning residents of severe heatwave conditions during the afternoon. Hot westerly winds, locally known as 'Loo', are making life difficult for commuters and outdoor workers, leading to a significant drop in footfall at local markets during the day.Dust Storms and Thunderstorms in Western UPWhile the east boils, Western Uttar Pradesh, including Meerut and Baghpat, is likely to witness a shift in weather. Due to the influence of a Western Disturbance over the Himalayan region, districts bordering Delhi-NCR might experience dust storms followed by light drizzling. This atmospheric change is expected to bring down the maximum temperature by 2 to 3 degrees, providing temporary relief to the residents of the Braj and NCR regions.Temperature Trends Across Major CitiesAccording to the latest data from the Lucknow Met Centre:Lucknow & Kanpur: Expected to remain dry and hot with temperatures hovering around 41-43°C.Varanasi & Gorakhpur: High humidity levels combined with high temperatures will increase the "Real Feel" heat.Bareilly & Meerut: Cloud cover is expected by evening, with a 30% chance of isolated thundershowers.Bundelkhand Region: Districts like Jhansi and Banda continue to record the highest temperatures in the state.IMD Guidelines for ResidentsIn light of the rising temperatures, health experts and the IMD have advised people to stay indoors between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, wear light-colored cotton clothes, and use umbrellas or hats when stepping out. Farmers have also been advised to adjust their irrigation schedules for summer crops to prevent wilting due to the intense heat and dry winds.
