US Work Visa News: It can now be easier and faster to obtain a US work visa. The Department of Labor (DOL) has created a new ‘Office of Immigration Policy’ which is intended to be temporary. The functions of this temporary office include managing and implementing sponsorship and employment-based visa systems. This office will also manage documents pertaining work visas. Brian Pasternak, the current head of the Office of Foreign Labor Certification, has been assigned to this new unit.The new office will operate under Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer and will act as the central hub for all DOL-related immigration concerns. Its aim, along with other immigration agencies within DOL, is to develop policies that help foreign nationals obtain work permits. Other agencies dealing with immigration will also collaborate with this office. Based on the information provided, it seems that applying for work visas will be far more easier with this new office.The new unit will align with various other units.Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer outlined the new office’s responsibilities in an internal memo dated June 23. Its mission is to promote immigration policy within the framework of current labor regulations. The department anticipates that post-launch of the ‘Office of Immigration Policy’, there will be increased productivity and streamlined oversight of immigration funding. The office is further directed to coordinate with Congress and the general public. This unit will also align with the Department of Homeland Security, State, and Agriculture. DOL emphasized that this is a temporary adjustment. There will be no diminishment of the authority of Employment and Training Administration (ETA), Wage and Hour Division (WHD) and Bureau of International Labor Affairs. The new office will coordinate with these agencies while maintaining the existing secretarial orders. It was stated in the memo that these arrangements are effective immediately and will remain in place until revised.
