Vida VX2 Electrifies Indian Market: Hero MotoCorp's New E-Scooter Targets Affordability with Innovative Battery Model
Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Hero MotoCorp's electric vehicle arm, Vida, is poised to disrupt the Indian two-wheeler market with the launch of its new Vida VX2 electric scooter, setting a highly competitive introductory price of just Rs 59,490 (ex-showroom). This aggressive pricing strategy is made possible by a revolutionary battery subscription model, a game-changer aimed at making EV ownership more accessible and affordable for the masses. The Vida VX2's standout feature is its pioneering Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) or battery subscription plan. Under this model, customers purchase the scooter at a significantly lower upfront cost, while the battery pack is subscribed for separately. This innovative approach effectively bypasses the high initial expense typically associated with electric vehicles, which often stems from the battery itself. For those seeking even greater flexibility, Vida will also offer a swappable battery option for the VX2, catering to users who prioritize quick charge solutions and no range anxiety.Targeting urban commuters, the Vida VX2 will be powered by a hub-mounted motor with a rated output of 1.5 kW and a peak power of 3 kW, enabling it to achieve a top speed of 70 kmph. The scooter promises a decent range, with the fixed battery version offering an IDC-claimed range of 110 km, while the swappable battery variant will provide an IDC range of 60 km per swap. The fixed battery can be charged from 0-80% in approximately 5.5 hours, making overnight charging convenient.Beyond its innovative pricing and battery options, the VX2 is packed with features designed for the modern rider. It boasts a vibrant 7-inch TFT touchscreen instrument cluster, providing essential ride information and access to connected technology. Riders can expect features like turn-by-turn navigation, geo-fencing for security, anti-theft alerts, remote immobilisation, and even an SOS alert system for emergencies. The scooter offers three distinct riding modes – Eco, Ride, and Sport – along with a 'limp home' mode for emergencies.Underpinning its ride quality, the VX2 features a telescopic front fork and a monoshock at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. The Vida VX2 comes in two variants, VX2 and VX2 Pro, offering consumers choice based on their feature preferences. With this aggressive launch, Vida is clearly aiming to accelerate EV adoption in India, making electric two-wheelers a more viable and attractive proposition for a wider segment of the population.
