West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission of India alleging grave errors in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision process of electoral rolls within the state. Addressing a gathering of Trinamool Congress booth level agents at the Netaji Indoor Stadium she claimed that the commission is operating under the influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party and has appointed observers without prior information to the state government. The Chief Minister expressed deep concern that thousands of legitimate voters have had their names wrongfully deleted from the draft rolls due to technical discrepancies such as spelling mismatches between Bengali and English scripts in the software system. She argued that the appointment of central officers as micro observers who lack proficiency in the local language has made them unfit to conduct necessary verifications efficiently Banerjee further alleged that the commission has transformed a standard administrative procedure into a tool for political intimidation which has led to significant harassment of common citizens and genuine electors. The Trinamool Congress supremo asserted that these actions are a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise voters and directed her party workers to remain vigilant in identifying discrepancies and assisting voters during the upcoming hearing and verification phases to protect their democratic rights.
