The district administration has described the event as a "stampede-like crush" and has ordered a formal inquiry into the incident. Political leaders across the country have expressed their griefPrime Minister Narendra Modi called the incident "deeply saddening" and offered his thoughts to the families who lost loved ones.Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin called the news "worrying" and immediately directed senior officials and ministers to rush to Karur to oversee medical and relief operations.Dozens of injured people are currently being treated in hospitals in Karur and nearby cities.
