The United States on Saturday rejected allegations that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was trying to destabilize the country. A US embassy spokesperson called the allegations "disappointing" and said the US government has been an advocate for media freedom around the world.

US and Rahul Gandhi are together to tarnish the image of the country

The BJP had recently alleged that elements involved in US government institutions "damaged" India's image. The BJP said, "American media portal OCCRP (Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project) and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi have colluded to tarnish our country's image."

The BJP had cited Gandhi's use of the OCCRP report to attack the Adani Group and accuse it of its proximity to the government.

The US said- this is disappointing.

On this, the spokesperson of the US Embassy said on Saturday, it is disappointing that the ruling party in India is making such allegations. The official said, the US government works with independent organizations that support professional development and capacity-building training for journalists. This program does not influence the editorial decisions or direction of these organizations.

America is an advocate of media freedom around the world

The BJP had cited a French media report while accusing the US. The party had said that it shows that OCCRP is funded by elements involved in US government entities such as George Soros and the Rockefeller Foundation as well as USAID of the US State Department.

The US embassy official said, the US has long been an advocate of media freedom around the world. A free press is an essential component of any democracy. It enables informed and constructive debate as well as holds those in power accountable.

America made these allegations against Gautam Adani.

Let us tell you that last month, US prosecutors accused 62-year-old Gautam Adani, his nephew Saga,r and other defendants of paying bribes of more than US $ 250 million to Indian government officials between 2020 and 2024 to obtain solar power contracts on terms that could potentially yield profits of more than two billion dollars. After the allegations, Congress demanded a thorough investigation and accused the government of protecting Adani. The Adani Group has rejected the allegations as "baseless".
