After Sheikh Hasina's ouster from power in Bangladesh, the interim government of Mohammad Yunus is taking some anti-India steps. Due to this, on Wednesday (28 August), Mohammad Yunus's government has lifted the ban on the Pakistani-backed Jamaat-e-Islami organization. On August 1, Sheikh Hasina had imposed many bans on this organization, calling it a terrorist organization. According to Sheikh Hasina's party, this organization was involved in many terrorist activities. But Mohammad Yunus's interim government has lifted this ban.
Before lifting the ban, Mohammad Yunus' government said that no evidence of Jamaat-e-Islami and its affiliated organizations being involved in terrorist activities has been found. Let us tell you that this party has not been able to contest elections in Bangladesh since 2013 because the court had cancelled the registration of this party. Now it has come to light from this party that they will knock on the doors of the Supreme Court to restore the registration.
Sheikh Hasina's government had imposed a ban
Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had accused the Jamaat-e-Islami party of instigating violence during student-led protests in Bangladesh. Later, these protests turned into a rebellion against PM Sheikh Hasina. But the party denied these allegations and said that the party had only supported the students.
Jamaat-e-Islami will now go to SC to contest elections
According to Al Jazeera's report, the Jamaat-e-Islami Party's lawyer Shishir Monir has said that the party will go to the Supreme Court next week to register its party with the Bangladesh Election Commission. Let us tell you that in the year 2013, the court had imposed restrictions on the party contesting elections. This party was founded in the year 1941 during British rule. This party campaigned against the creation of Bangladesh as an independent state during the independence struggle from Pakistan in the year 1971.
