Intestinal worms can be a major cause of iron deficiency. The problem of intestinal worms is often caused by a lack of cleanliness, drinking dirty water, or eating unhygienic food. This problem is especially seen in small children and people with weak immune systems. Dr. Muzammil Sultan Koka (Senior Registrar, Department of Critical Care Medicine, Maringo Asia Hospital Gurugram) said that there are many species of these worms, such as roundworm, hookworm, and tapeworm, which absorb nutrients from the body and have a bad effect on our health.

  • What is the relation between stomach worms and iron deficiency?

Dr. Muzammil Sultan Koka said that iron is very important for our health, because it helps in making hemoglobin in the blood. Hemoglobin is the protein that transports oxygen to different parts of the body. When there is a lack of iron in the body, anemia can occur, which can cause problems like weakness, fatigue, dizziness, and shortness of breath. Intestinal worms are the main cause of iron deficiency, especially hookworms, which stick to the intestinal wall and suck blood. This gradually causes a lack of blood in the body and the amount of iron decreases.

Damage caused by insects-

  • Nutrient deficiency: Intestinal worms weaken the body by sucking nutrients, especially iron, from the food we eat. This prevents the body from getting the necessary nutrition.
  • Bleeding: Hookworms stick to the intestinal wall and suck blood, which causes slight bleeding in the intestine. This blood remains in the stomach and gradually leads to anemia.
  • Weakness and fatigue: Intestinal worms weaken the body, making one feel constantly tired and lack energy.

Prevention

Some precautions must be taken to prevent stomach worms and prevent iron deficiency:

  • Drink clean water
  • wash hands before eating and after going to the toilet
  • Eat clean and properly cooked food
  • Take insecticides after consulting your doctor
  • By following these precautions you can protect yourself and your family from stomach worms and iron deficiency
