Chhath Puja 2024: Chhath Mahaparva started on 5 November 2024 and today i.e. 7 November is the third day of Chhath Puja. Lord Surya Dev and Chhathi Mata are worshipped in Chhath Puja. Why do we offer prayers to the setting sun?
It is believed that in the evening, the Sun resides with his wife Pratyusha. In such a situation, during Chhath Puja, the last day of the Sun is offered to Pratyusha and she is also worshipped. It is said that offering Arghya to the setting Sun can remove many troubles. Along with this, one can also get relief from many health-related problems.
Method of offering Arghya to Sun God
On the third day of Chhath Puja, Arghya is offered to the Sun God. On this day, wake up early in the morning and take a bath in a holy river, and wear clean clothes. If there is no holy river nearby, then you can take a bath at home by adding Gangajal to the water. After this, worship the Lord Sun God. Offer him fruits, flowers, sugarcane, Thekua. Then in the evening, stand in the water facing the Sun God with a basket of prasad in your hand and offer Arghya to the setting Sun. While offering Arghya to the Sun God, chant mantras like 'Om Suryay Namah', and 'Om Shri Suryay Namah'.
