Investment in equity mutual funds declined by 10% to Rs 34,419 crore in September 2024. This figure is the lowest investment since April. However, investment through the Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) has increased, reaching Rs 24,509 crore. This change reflects the thinking of investors and market activities.

An investment of Rs 34,419 crore was made this month. This is less than Rs 38,239 crore in August. This is the lowest investment since April. The investment in April was Rs 18,917 crore.
Reasons for decline
The mutual fund body said that investment in sector-based and large company funds decreased. This is the reason why a decline was seen on a monthly level.
Increasing investment in SIP
However, the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) said that investment through SIP (Systematic Investment Plan) increased to Rs 24,509 crore. It was Rs 23,547 crore in August.

AMFI CEO Venkat Chalasani said that the increasing investment through SIP shows that people are now investing in a disciplined manner. They are giving priority to wealth creation.

The mutual fund industry saw investments of Rs 1.08 lakh crore in August. But in September, there were withdrawals of Rs 71,114 crore. Withdrawals of Rs 1.14 lakh crore were mainly from bond schemes.

Despite these exits, the net assets under management of the mutual fund industry rose to Rs 67 lakh crore from Rs 66.7 lakh crore at the end of August.
Sector-based funds
Sector-based funds witnessed the highest net inflow of Rs 13,255 crore in equity schemes. However, this is lower than Rs 18,117 crore in August.

Flows into funds linked to large companies also declined, from Rs 2,637 crore to Rs 1,769 crore.
New plans
According to Morningstar Research India, 13 index fund schemes were launched this month. They raised a total of Rs 3,656 crore. This was followed by sector-based funds which raised Rs 7,842 crore.
It is worth noting that equity mutual funds declined in September, but SIP investment increased. Investors have still continued to invest in a disciplined manner.
