Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has praised Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for reaching out to him and explaining the reasons behind not retaining him ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction to be held this month. RCB has retained only three Indian players Virat Kohli, Yash Dayal, and Rajat Patidar ahead of the mega auction.
Glenn Maxwell joined RCB in 2021 and played an important role in the middle order in the last four seasons. Out of which the Bangalore team managed to make it to the play-offs thrice. Maxwell said in 'ESPNcricinfo's 'Around the Wicket' show that I got a call from Mo Bobat and Andy Flower.
I was on a Zoom call in which he told me about the decision of not retaining him. It was done beautifully. We talked about the game for about half an hour and discussed his strategy a lot. He told me what he was thinking of doing next.
He said, "I completely understand the direction they are moving in. They need three Indians to form that core and hopefully, their foreign players can complement those local players. I was happy with that. If every team does this, I think maybe the relationship will become even more comfortable." This Australian is RCB's fifth-highest run-scorer with 1266 runs in 52 matches.
Can use Right to Match card
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team can use the Right to Match card on Glenn Maxwell in the Mega Auction 2025. There are very few players like Maxwell in T20 cricket. Who can play an important role in the team's victory with both bat and ball? Maxwell's performance for RCB has also been amazing.
