The Indian team has suffered a major setback before the Perth Test. Left-arm fast bowler Khalil Ahmed has returned to India due to injury. In his place, Yash Dayal has been included in the team as a reserve player. Yash Dayal was included in the Test team during the Bangladesh series.
But he did not get to play even a single match there. Recently Yash Dayal also got a place in the T20 series against South Africa. But he did not play a single match. He has reached Perth directly from Johannesburg.
Khalil was injured and was not able to bowl in the nets. The medical team advised him to rest after which he was sent back to India.
A BCCI source said that this is like an option because the Indian team needs a bowler like Mitchell Starc for practice. Dayal was supposed to play the A Test but he was sent to South Africa. If Khalil cannot bowl then there is no point in him staying here.
It is not yet decided whether Khalil will play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament before the IPL auction. Delhi Capitals have released him while Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained Dayal. Apart from him, Yashasvi Jaiswal also suffered shoulder pain while batting on Tuesday. But he returned to the nets on Wednesday.
Shubman Gill is also injured.
Shubman Gill may be out of the first Test match between India and Australia due to injury. Gill fractured his left thumb while taking a catch in the slip cordon during India's match simulation practice at the WACA in Perth on November 16. India has also included left-handed batsman Devdutt Padikkal in the team as a back-up option for Gill.
