Backing down from the boycott threat, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has told the ICC that it is ready to accept the 'hybrid model' to host the Champions Trophy next year. But the ICC will have to allow the same arrangement for the tournament to be held in India till 2031.
The PCB had earlier threatened to boycott the tournament. This proposal is a little softer, as it had said that if it was not given full hosting rights and India's demand for a neutral venue was accepted, it would boycott the tournament.
A PCB source said that the current situation is that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has said that he will accept hosting the Champions Trophy on the 'hybrid model' only if the board agrees that all future ICC tournaments will be held on the basis of this system and Pakistan will not go to India to play its matches.
India has to host three ICC men's tournaments by 2031. The 2026 T20 World Cup, the 2029 Champions Trophy in collaboration with Sri Lanka, and the 2031 ODI World Cup in collaboration with Bangladesh will be organized.
Earlier, Naqvi also met Emirates Cricket Board chief Mubashir Usmani in Dubai in which he said that Pakistan is ready to host the Champions Trophy and all preparations are going on as per schedule.
The source said Pakistan also wants the ICC board to increase its share in the revenue from the current 5.75 percent in the financial cycle and Naqvi is adamant about this. However, he has not asked for any additional fee for hosting.
