PAN-Aadhaar linking update: The last date for linking a PAN card with an Aadhaar card has already passed. However, according to many media reports, people have been requested to link their PAN card with their Aadhaar card by 31 December 2024.
ET has written quoting media reports that if the PAN card is not linked to the Aadhaar card by this deadline, the government can deactivate it. In fact, PAN cards not linked to Aadhaar cards have been deactivated from July 1, 2023. The government had fixed June 30, 2023, as the last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar.
The government is collecting 1000 rupees from each person
According to the information given by the government in Parliament, the government is charging a fine of Rs 1000 for linking a deactivated PAN with Aadhaar from July 1, 2023. In February, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary had said that as of January 29, 2024, 11.48 crore PANs, except for some categories, were not linked to Aadhaar cards.
He had also informed that the government has recovered a total of Rs 601.97 crore from July 1, 2023, to January 31, 2024, by charging a late penalty of Rs 1000 from the persons who did not link PAN and Aadhaar after the deadline of June 30, 2023.
How to check whether a PAN card is linked to Aadhaar or not?
For this, first, you have to go to the e-filing portal. After this, click on Link Aadhaar Status in the Quick Links section on the homepage of the e-filing portal. After this, enter your PAN and Aadhaar number, and then click on View Link Aadhaar Status. After this, you will be shown on the display whether the PAN card is linked to Aadhaar or not.
