Delhi Capitals captain and India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant surprised his fans and team with his social media post. Before the upcoming IPL mega auction, Pant posted on the social media platform 'X' asking if he would go to the auction, how much will he be bid for or will he remain unsold. Pant wrote, "If I go to the auction, will I be sold or not, and for how much?".

Pant returned to the field this year in IPL 2024 after a horrific car accident. He was out of the entire 2023 season. After this, he won the T20 World Cup for India under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and then made a comeback in the ODI and Test teams as well. After the IPL player rules were announced by the BCCI last month, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal confirmed that Pant would definitely be retained.

Jindal said that yes, we definitely have to retain him. There are many good players in our team. The rules have come out, so now decisions will be taken after discussions with GMR and our cricket director Sourav Ganguly. Rishabh Pant will definitely be retained.

He further said that we have many good players like Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Porel, Mukesh Kumar, and Khalil Ahmed. We will see what happens in the auction. As per the rules, we can retain six players. After discussion, we will move forward with the auction process.

Earlier, Rishabh Pant had reprimanded a user on social media who had spread rumors about his joining Royal Challengers Bangalore. Pant took a tough stand on this post and called it "fake news".

IPL teams have the right to retain a total of six players from their current squad. In which the retention or 'Right to Match' (RTM) option can be used. These six retentions/RTMs can include a maximum of five capped players (Indian and foreign) and a maximum of two uncapped players.
