Chhath Puja School Closed: Due to the grand Chhath Puja celebrations, several states including Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh have announced holidays on the occasion of Chhath Puja. The four-day festival began on Tuesday (November 6). Chhath Puja, dedicated to the Sun God, is celebrated in various Indian states and internationally. This year it is from November 5 to 8.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Friday announced that November 7 will be a public holiday in the capital to celebrate Chhath Puja. The decision came in response to a request from Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, who had urged the CM to declare a holiday on that day to mark the festival.
Declaration of public holiday
The Lieutenant Governor on Tuesday (November 6) declared a public holiday for all Delhi government offices to mark 'Pratihar Shashthi' or 'Surya Shashthi' (Chhath Puja). The four-day festival, which began on Tuesday, honors the Sun God and is celebrated in various Indian states and globally. This year Chhath Puja will run from November 5 to 8.

Schools will remain closed in Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi, I, and UP on November 7 on the occasion of Chhath Puja. Banks will remain closed in Bihar, Delhi, Jharkhand,d, and Bengal on November 7 (Thursday) on the occasion of Chhath Puja Sandhya Arghya. The next day, on November 8 (Friday), banks will remain closed in Bihar, Jharkhand,d, and Meghalaya for the Chhath Puja morning Arghya and Wangala Festival.
Chhath Puja Celebrations in India
Chhath Puja is widely celebrated across the country, especially in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. Devotees in these states as well as Delhi began the rituals on the Yamuna and Ganga ghats on Tuesday morning. The festival begins with Nahai-Khai on the Chaturthi Tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha, in which the focus is on purification and preparation. It is followed by Kharna on Panchami Tithi, Chhath Puja on ShashthI , i and concludes with Usha.
