The AAP government in Delhi has sought the Centre's help to collaborate with neighboring states to tackle other sources of pollution in the capital before winter sets in. On Tuesday, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai wrote a letter to Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav. In this letter, he sought time to meet him to discuss the issue of creating a joint strategy to tackle air pollution.

Take the necessary steps for a clean and healthy future

Gopal Rai requested the Center to take strong action to tackle pollution by facilitating cooperation between Delhi and its neighboring states. He said in his letter, I believe that with the cooperation of the central government, we can work on the foundation laid by the Delhi government. We can work towards a long-term solution to this crisis. I am confident that you will take the necessary steps to ensure a clean and healthy future for all.

Pollution has a bad effect on the health of children and the elderly

The Delhi Environment Minister said that every year, especially during the winter season, the air pollution crisis in Delhi has a serious impact on the health and well-being of millions of people. The elderly, children, and people suffering from respiratory diseases are particularly affected due to air pollution. The minister also highlighted various measures taken by the Kejriwal government to mitigate the crisis.

Pollution at dangerous levels at the end of the year

He said, we regularly take several initiatives to deal with this problem. Such as implementing the odd-even vehicle scheme, promoting electric vehicles, and increasing the frequency of public transport, etc. Apart from this, we have banned firecrackers, and launched a large-scale tree plantation campaign. Industrial units have been shifted to clean PNG fuel.

Gopal Rai said that the air quality in Delhi reaches dangerous levels, especially during the months of November and December. The main reason for this is some factors beyond the control of the state government.
