Haryana Assembly Election 2024: Haryana assembly elections have now reached their final phase, all preparations have been made for the voting to be held on Saturday (October 5) on 90 seats of the state. Voting in Haryana was earlier scheduled to be held on October 1, but it was extended for four days. Now the day has come when the people of Haryana will once again exercise their franchise. On Saturday, the fate of 1027 other candidates including Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini, former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda, Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat and JJP's Dushyant Chautala will be captured in EVMs. The results of the Haryana elections along with Jammu and Kashmir will also be announced on October 8.

Tough competition between BJP and Congress

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to capture power in the state for the third consecutive time, while the Congress is hoping to return to power after a decade. The counting of votes will take place on October 8. Haryana Chief Election Officer Pankaj Aggarwal said that 2,03,54,350 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise, of which 8,821 voters are above 100 years of age. Voting will take place from 7 am to 6 pm. A total of 1,031 candidates are contesting on 90 seats, of which 101 are women. Of these candidates, 464 are contesting as independents.

20632 polling stations were set up

Aggarwal said on Friday that a total of 20,632 polling stations have been set up for voting. The major parties contesting the elections are BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD)-Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) alliance and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP)-Azad Samaj Party (ASP) alliance. It is worth noting that the election campaign in the state came to a halt just two days before the polling. On the last day of the election campaign, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed a rally in Nuh. Last year, there was violence in Nuh, when a mob attacked a VHP procession. Six people, including two home guards and a cleric, were killed in that attack. Rahul Gandhi said that there is a Congress storm in Haryana and his party will form a government which will be for the poor and farmers. He said that 'Mohabbat ki Dukaan' will be opened in every corner of the state.
