Villagers held two policemen including a sub-inspector posted at Meerut's Parikshitgarh police station hostage and beat them up, accusing them of extortion. Police gave this information on Sunday. Police said that in Govindpuri village, villagers held sub-inspector Satyendra posted at Parikshitgarh police station and trainee sub-inspector Shivam hostage and beat them up on Saturday night. He said that on receiving the information, police from several police stations reached the spot. Police said that the villagers created a ruckus for several hours in front of the police officers. Villagers alleged that sub-inspector Satyendra had harassed shopkeepers for several days and he used to extort money from someone or the other every day. Villagers alleged that he used to threaten to send them to jail if they protested. He said that the villagers demanded the suspension of both the sub-inspectors and the registration of an FIR against them.

Action was taken on receipt of the investigation report

Police Circle Officer (Rural) Navina Shukla somehow pacified the villagers and assured action against both the inspectors, after which the villagers released both of them. When asked about the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Vipin Tada said that the villagers had hhadaccused both the inspectors of illegal extortion, due to which the incident took place. When asked about legal action against the accused policemen and the villagers who beat them, the Senior Superintendent of Police said that the investigation of the case has been given to the Police Circle Officer (Sadar) and action will be taken after receiving the investigation report.

They were making "illegal collection" from shopkeepers

.On the other hand, the villagers allege that Inspector Satyendra posted at Parikshitgarh police station and trainee Inspector Shivam were selling firecrackers on Diwali in Govindpuri village for which they were extorting money from shopkeepers. It is alleged that on Saturday night too, Satyendra, along with his fellow Inspector Shivam, had come to Govindpuri village in an inebriated state to extort money.

The villagers allege that during this time, when the villagers protested against the extortion, the police inspector misbehaved with them and used abusive language , and threatened to send them to jail, after which the villagers became furious and took both of them hostage.
