SC Madarsa Verdict: Muslim religious leaders and opposition parties on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court's decision upholding the validity of the Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Board Act. Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahali, a senior member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, said that now madrasas can function with complete freedom.

He said, 'How can a law made by the government be unconstitutional? Thousands of people are associated with these madrasas and the Supreme Court's decision has given them great relief. Now we can run our madrasas with complete freedom.' Maulana Yasoob Abbas, spokesperson of the All India Shia Personal Law Board, said that madrasas have given many IAS and IPS officers to the country.

'Madrassas played an important role in freedom'

Maulana Yasoob Abbas said, 'We welcome the way the Supreme Court has found this law to be correct and just. Madrassas have played an important role in the independence of the country. Madrassas have given us many IAS, IPS, ministers, and governors. It is not right to look at madrassas with a negative perspective. Abbas told PTI, ‘If any madrassas are going on the wrong path, then action should be taken against them but all madrassas should not be looked at with suspicion.’

Maulana Kab Rashidi of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind said that the Supreme Court's decision has given a very big message. He said, 'This is a very big message. Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind welcomes it.' He said, 'If the government wants some improvement in modern education in madrasas, then we can sit together and discuss it, but if it imposes something unconstitutional, then a legal battle will be fought.'
