Mumbai experienced the coldest day in the last eight years on November 29, 2024. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) , the city recorded a minimum temperature of 16.5°C on Friday. Earlier, 16.3°C was recorded in November 2016, which was the coldest day in eight years. The Santacruz Observatory, which records the weather of Mumbai's suburbs, recorded this temperature from night to morning. This air quality is considered somewhat poor, but overall it is not a matter of concern.
The temperature difference between Colaba and Santa Cruz
While the minimum temperature in Santacruz was 16.5°C, it was recorded at 21.4°C in Colaba. The Colaba Observatory measures the weather in the main city of Mumbai. Despite this, IMD scientist Sushma Nair said that there is no cold wave alert in Mumbai from November 30 to December 3 and the temperature may increase in the coming days.
What are the reasons for the increase in temperature in Mumbai?
According to Sunil Kamble, Director of IMD Mumbai, a depression arising in the Bay of Bengal can increase the temperature in Mumbai. Due to this system, humidity will increase in Mumbai, which can further increase the temperature. Along with this, Mumbai may also be cloudy in the coming days. Kamble also said that the cold winds blowing in Mumbai at present are going to end soon and the weather will start getting warm from Saturday.
Current weather and air quality in Mumbai
On Friday, Mumbai's maximum temperature was 27°C and the humidity level was recorded at 48 percent. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was 106, which is considered slightly worse than normal, while the PM2.5 level was 37 µg/m³. This air quality is not particularly worrying, but it still cannot be considered healthy.
