Uttarakhand Leopard Attack: A man-eating leopard attacked and killed a child in the Lansdowne area of the Pauri district of Uttarakhand. Officials said that the incident took place on Monday evening around 7:30 pm in Kota village of Rikhnikhal block where a leopard took away six-year-old Aditya from the courtyard of the house, who had come to his maternal grandparent's house with his mother on the occasion of Rakshabandhan.
He said that Aditya was playing at the time of the incident and his mother and grandmother were also present in the courtyard. Seeing Aditya being taken away by the leopard in its jaws, they raised an alarm but the leopard ran away towards the forest. Aditya was a resident of Uneri village.
The body of a child was found late at night
Officials said that after a lot of searching, Aditya's body was found in the bushes of the forest about one kilometer away from Kota village at around 1.30 am. He said that after conducting the post-mortem in Kotdwar on Tuesday, the body was handed over to the family.
Leopard terror is a major reason for migration
Talking to PTI, Lansdowne MLA Dilip Rawat expressed grief over the incident and said that one of the main reasons for migration from the hilly areas is the terror of leopards and tigers. He said that he will raise this issue in the assembly session starting from Wednesday in Gairsain and efforts will be made to find a permanent solution to it.
They attack bike riders almost every day
Former Pradhan of Uneri village Manendra Singh said that there is always a terror of leopards in the area and leopards and tigers keep attacking scooter and motorcycle riders on the road every day. Divisional Forest Officer of Garhwal Forest Division Swapnil Anirudh said that keeping in view the activities of leopards, eight cameras have been installed in the area, and along with this four cages are being installed.
