Biggest drugs seized: The Indian Coast Guard has seized a huge consignment of about five tonnes of drugs in the Andaman waters. This drug was smuggled from a fishing boat. Defense officials said on Monday that the consignment seized is of about five tonnes of drugs. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has carried out this operation in the Andaman waters. However, complete information about this operation has not been received yet. Defence officials said, more information is awaited.

The seizure is the latest in a series of similar seizures made by anti-narcotics agencies while cracking down on drug trafficking and cartels. Earlier this month, nearly 700 kg of methamphetamine – also known as meth – was seized. Eight Iranian nationals were arrested from Indian waters off the Gujarat coast.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said in a statement that the operation named 'Sagar Manthan - 4' was launched based on intelligence information. The operation was jointly conducted by the NCB, Navy, and Gujarat Police Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS).
This year, anti-narcotics agencies have seized 3,500 kg of drugs being smuggled through the sea route, leading to the arrest of 11 Iranian and 14 Pakistani nationals in three cases. According to the NCB, all these foreigners are currently lodged in jail and awaiting a court hearing.
