UP Assembly ByPolls: By-elections are to be held on 10 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. Samajwadi Party has fielded its candidates on 6 seats. After the announcement of SP candidates, speculations started that will Samajwadi Party not form an alliance with Congress in the by-elections. Congress and SP fought the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections together in UP. However, after the results of the Haryana Assembly elections, many allies of Congress have started challenging it. Amidst all this, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav made it clear that the alliance between his party and Congress, an ally of the opposition's 'Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance' (INDIA), will remain intact.
Congress-SP alliance will continue
Akhilesh Yadav paid tribute to his father Mulayam Singh Yadav on his second death anniversary in Saifai, Etawah. After this, when asked about the possibility of continuing the alliance with Congress, he said in a conversation with reporters, "Today is not the time to discuss this. But as far as the India alliance is concerned, I would like to say that the alliance between SP and Congress will continue."
SP fielded candidates for 6 seats.
A day after the defeat of Congress in the Haryana assembly elections, on Wednesday, SP announced its candidates for six of the 10 seats going to by-elections - Phulpur, Majhawan, Karhal, Katehari, Milkipur and Sisamau. Congress was claiming Phulpur and Majhawan seats out of them. In such a situation, various speculations were being made about the alliance between SP and Congress.

SP and Congress had contested the Lok Sabha elections under the 'India Alliance'. Performing well in the elections, SP won 37 seats in Uttar Pradesh and Congress won six seats. When asked about Congress's defeat in the Haryana elections, Yadav said, 'It is not right to discuss Haryana elections now. We will discuss it when we meet.' However, the Election Commission has not yet announced the dates for the by-elections.
